HST triangles from layer cake, what to square them to?

Hi - I'd like to make the Happy Hearts quilt. After cutting the HST from the layer cake and sewing them together, Jenny advises to square them up . Does anyone know what the measurement is to square them up? Should it be 4 3/4 or 4 1/2? Thanks in advance.

In the video she says, "I did not square them up, but you can if you want to." She does show laying a ruler on the cut squares for squaring up as she says this, but not do any trimming. Nor does she specify a size. Size is irrevelant. All HSTs are the same size, so square them to the largest size possible, or whatever size you choose.

Here's a video of a recent tutorial where Jenny shows you how to square up HST's.
I thought you might like to see how she does this. I have the ruler she uses for this, and it works great. Wish I had purchased it years ago!

        Here's the ruler I spoke of :

Of course I'm sure other people have other rules or ways they enjoy squaring up their HST's. I really liked this ruler though!

thanks, i do have the slotted trimmer. I have to say it's a little labor intensive but i'm thinking i want to go ahead and square these up. Normally i would just run with it and not square up, but because it's all HST I think i want to go ahead and take the time to do it. I'm also giving this quilt away.

I normally square up HSTs made from a LC to 6 1/2" but if your pattern calls for smaller units you can square them up to whatever size you need.
