    Need batting information please.

    Hi Ladies,

I've quilted for several years, mainly baby quilts.
Is there information on batting on a forum? I use 100% cotton for baby quilts.
Is there something that is better?

I would like a little loft to it as the cotton I use has none.
Let me know if the information is already posted somewhere.

    Thank you.
I appreciate so much your assistance with my questions.

I think it's a matter of personal preference and how you quilt. Hand-quilters have different needs than machine quilters.

I used to use W&N until I tried Quilter's Dream. I switched to QD and have never looked back. They have different lofts, I'm sure you'll find one you like. My personal favorite is QD Wool.

Here's there website with lots of information: http://www.quiltersdreambatting.com/

      Thank you for this information.
Does the wool batting make the quilt quite a bit warmer?

I don't have a preference for batting yet. The cotton seems fine at this point.
I've heard about 80/20 but don't have any experience. Your thoughts?
      thank you

The 80/20 is my preference but I have no tried wool yet. I found cotton to be too flat and poly tends to mat if ironed and I iron my bindings.

          Re: Need batting information please.

Thank you. I went to quilters dream batting website. Wow a lot of choices.
Next quilt I may try the 80/20.
Just talked to MSQ and they are using on long arm Mountain Mist 80/20.
But there most popular batting to sell is Quilters Dream cotton 100 percent.
They do put binding on for 45.00 with zig zag on top. If you want it hand binded
          that is available also.

Thank you for helping me ............a newbie to binding.

For me, Quilters Dream cotton "Deluxe." It is fabulous. If you call them they will send you (free) a little book with samples of all their Quilters Dream battings. I have the little sample book and refer to it a lot. Let me know if you can't find phone number.

My batting of choice is Hobbs 80/20. I use it for everything. Quilters Dream 70/30 is great, too, but I'm not willing to the pay the extra cost for it. One of my friends is a LA quilter. She orders Hobbs 80/20 rolls once a year for herself & many of her friends. It gets freighted to her house, then we all pick up our roll. I get the 90" wide roll. I think it's 30 yds. With the shipping divided up among several buyers, a roll is very reasonable.

Try wool batting. It has higher loft and does not crease.

                  Re: Need batting information please.

How often will the quilt be washed? It's my understanding that wool batting shrinks more than 80/20. You might want to research that.

Is the wool batting heavy and quite a bit warmer once quilt it done?
                        thank you

I was recommended a polyester batting for hand quilting. I bought it by the yard. When it arrived by post it had a fold line in the middle. Can I iron it out?

I'd worry about melting it with the iron. Try unfolding the batting, misting it lightly with water, then throw it in the dryer (use low heat) to fluff it up. If you smooth it out carefully when you sandwich it between the top and the backing, it should be OK.

Nope it will melt if you iron it. Just go ahead and sandwich and quilt it, then wash the completed quilt. The fold line you are concerned about should be gone. I am a hq but have never made a single quilt where I could see fold lines once I was done even though they were noticeable when I basted.

Quilters Dream Deluxe is my absolute favourite. also like the Quilters Dream Puff for lovely loft for baby quilts - it’s very light weight too. I think Quilters Dream is worth the extra cost.
