Kona solids jellyroll - need some help with the star blocks featured!

I bought the jelly roll featured as the daily deal this past week because of the great star block video. I've tried to locate the video again to watch it more carefully, but I can only find the video featured on jelly roll week, which doesn't have the exact cutting measurements, and is based on a quilt pattern sold in the store, which I don't have.
Everythig was going together smoothly, but I have noticed after the first 3 blocks, that when I get to sewing them tog, I will be cutting off all the star points. I've cut all my pieces to the measurements in the video, so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Is it my seam allowance when adding the background to the jelly roll strip? Hope someone can understand what I'm trying to say and give me some advice!! Thanks,

Hi cvdnurse... I'm still fairly new to quilting, so the only way I might be able to help is to see it. Hopefully you can get it figured out.

If you're looking for the tutorial video on this website, it's not there for some reason. Go to www.youtube.com and look up MissouriQuiltCo, and subscribe! You'll find the video along with all the others. I double checked just to make sure. Hope that helps you a little bit...

That's the video! Thanks for re=posting it. And as I watched it, I realized I am making mine just like yours. After trimming it looks just like yours. So I'm going to continue on and make the rest of my stars. Thanks!
PS Is there a charm pack that coordinates with this jelly roll?

There's a light colorway and a dark colorway in charm pack form for Kona Solids

They should be right there ^^

PLEASE post pictures, I'd love to know that someone besides Mom has been able to successfully pull that jelly star thing off :P

Sorry to re-open such an old thread but was wondering if anyone had finished a quilt made with the jelly-star blocks from Jenny's tutorial. This is one of my most favourite tutorials and I've just ordered the fabric and a jelly roll. I searched the forum for "jelly star" hoping to find some tips and this thread came up in the results. I notice the first poster had a problem when sewing the blocks together that the tips of the stars were being cut off. Any hints and tips before I start my blocks would be very much appreciated.

Molly, no need to be sorry, it's always great re-visiting old posts. I participated in the block swap using these blocks and the best advice I can give is pressing every seam before moving on to the next one. Here is the link to the huge thread on that block swap and maybe you can find some more hints to help you along. It's a great block and I really hope you have fun with them!

I'm happy that someone pulled this out of the archives so I could see the tutorial. And, it brings up a very interesting point to emphasize a problem-question I've had recently. For my local QG I've been working on the BOM and my points at the edge of the block are 'right on'. This leaves me wondering what happens when I add my sashing/borders . . . those points will be eaten up in the 1/4 inch seam allowance, right?

Can we use this block to make the star quilt for the soldiers? It looks like the same pattern. How would you adjust it to match the dimensions that the blocks they are saying we have to make? Am I making any sense? Help! Hugs, Jan L
