    Should I add a border?

I have some brown and some beige strips and I want to try a pattern called Value Study. It's a pattern from Quilting Company. I want to add a border or maybe 2 borders. Do you think a border would 'spoil' the pattern? If I do use a border, what color should I use? Thanks for any suggestions.

It's a pretty pattern, without the borders. If you want borders, I don't think I would take away from quilt, it would frame it.

I would take the top and audition fabrics for the border at your local quilt store if you choose to add them.

Random thought... If you had enough fabric to do 2 of the pairs of blocks extra , you could use them as corner stones on your border.

wow, that is pretty. I like the look of the blocks having an inner border (binding actually in photo) with dark brown. i would do something like that and then a border that is wider. very nice pattern.

Thank you for providing the link. I may take the quilt to the shop.

I would not border that one cause I think it would detract from the design. Add blocks or rows if you need to make it bigger. Hope I did not hurt your feelings, it kind of sounds like you want to add borders.

I like it the way it is, so I personally wouldn't. I think modern styles are perfect without them. : )

I wouldn't add a border. Like just the way it is.

I think a border would be a personal opinion.
I would lay the quilt down and lay different
fabrics along the edges so it appears to have
a border. Try different fabrics and different
widths. Take pictures of each option.
View your pictures. You will be able to
choose which option you like best.

I really don't want a border but I need one to make the size I want. Like many of you, I thought the modern design was perfect without a border and that a border would detract from the design. I just don't have enough browns and lights to make the size I want and, being on a tight budget, I didn't want to go shopping for more. I thought I might have enough of some stash fabric that would complement the browns/lights. Maybe I should just put it aside and wait until I can get more browns. Hate to do that as I am enjoying the process. The blocks are going together so quickly and I like the design.

Good idea. I will do that. If I don't find something suitable, I will just have to put this project aside for now. I like this one too much to just 'make-do' with a less than desirable choice.
