That was my first thought too, until I noticed the center difference.

Still a nice pattern either way.

I see what you're saying but my block is like the centre of Jacobs Ladder but with extra squares within the triangles - like these drawn in. Thinks I've got it now with the lavieenrosie link but thanks for the imput.

Thanks so much for that. This forum is such a help and my question has had so many useful answers but this link has finally solved the mystery. Time to start sewing I think after puzzling over this block for some time.

There is a pictorial guide to assembling the block as well. The pattern is called Schnibbles Mercerie by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co.
Many thanks Lyn - you solved it. I'd seen references to Lavieenrosie but couldn't get anywhere with a Google search - that's exactly it and there seems to be many ways to put the blocks together - I like this stand-alone arrangement as it is

    Edited to add
Just took a look at the cats cradle block and yup looks the same too...with 4 patches on the corners.
I think I'll be using that part of the car's cradle block for two of the corners but with 4 patches on the other corners. Found another way to make the triangle section which is part of a Grandmother's Choice tutorial. Every Cat's Cradle block I've seen looks like a 9 patch block whereas the block I want to make has 4 patch blocks. Not as experienced as all the Forum members here but I think I'll get there wiith a few experiments. Thanks everyone for your imput.

Denise I had to laugh. Is there any block that Creative Grids doesn't have a special ruler for?!!

Anyone done anything like it?
Hate to tell ya, but it is commonly known as a cats cradle block. As with all things crafty, there are probably several other names for this block but the most common one being Cats Cradle, Birds in the Air etc... There are serval ways to piece it but the Creative Grids Ruler makes for quick work or you can try this, happy quilting.
