What size do you cut square for 6" turnovers?

I saw a neat pattern using turnovers but I don't have any in the house. Can someone tell me what size square to cut to make 6" turnovers? I'm pretty new to quilting so this answer would be very much appreciate. Thank you.

6" turnovers are based on the measurement of the short sides of the triangle. If you want to cut a square into 6" half square triangles (turnovers) the square needs to be a 6" square.

If you are sewing 6" triangles together with a quarter inch seam to make a square that square will end up being 5 1/2."

    I hope that's clear.
