    Match Colors for gold quilt

Hi Brenda here. I am rather new to quilting. Only about 5 years. I was given a beautiful gold jelly roll ffor Christmas. I need to match it with something but don't know how. I'd like it to look kinda elegant when I'm done and do NOT want any white in it. Thoughts? I need help! Never used a jelly roll bf.

Hi Brenda. Welcome to the group.

Jennie has her tutorials also listed by type of fabric. https://quiltingtutorials.com/tutorials?Type=2.5"%20strips I'd look through those to see if there is a design you like.

It would be helpful if you take a picture of the jelly roll you have or a link to one just like it. It might be helpful for members her to come up with ideas of what they would do. I can't think of anything off the top of my head without a visual :-)

Is the jelly roll all gold? Sometimes they have a bit of another color I the print that you could use to find matching fabric. If you don’t want white, black or navy would make a nice contrast.

Are you on Pinterest? Search for color combinations and you’ll find lots of ideas.

My first thoughts were either a red or green, but that might be too Christmasy.

Chocolate brown goes beautifully with gold. You decide if you want milk chocolate or dark chocolate. Hard for me to know without seeing your gold.

Black looks elegant with gold. I made a Binding Tool star pattern using a gold and black jelly roll, it turned out great! It won a prize at Missouri Star in a quilt display they had at their Birthday Bash for the best interpretation of one of Jenny's tutorials!

Hi and welcome to the forum
am looking at a box that the background is a rich purple the box pattern is red ribbons red holly berries, green holly leaves, golden bells, baubles, and gold ribbon.
all really depends on the pattern to which colour would suit and your preference.

they look like neutrals well apart from the 3 darker ones
if look at Bonnies leader and ender challenge there are neutrals mixed with many colours is this something you like colour wise?

birdsembroider.jpgI made this gold and black with holiday florish antique story. I also think a splash of orange or red would be nice or for something a bit more elegant...teal

                        Hi Brenda,

Welcome to the boards. Are you close to a quilt shop? Take the jelly roll to the shop and audition fabrics. It will help you with selection of additional colors and prints. There is usually someone available at the shop to help you too. Do you have a pattern selected? Good luck on your quilt project.

My 1st thought was a deep rich purple or blue.
Depends how neutral you want the quilt.
Maybe black or a deep rich red.

I am a blue person, so I'd probably head to the deep blue batiks. Some of them have golds, depending on the maker. You could also quilt with a metallic gold thread if the quilt won't get much wear.

My other thoughts were a rich black or a deep red, like Crimson or merlot.

The pattern you choose may also play a part in your decision.

Looking at the fabric probably what I'd try personally is Jenny's Checkered Dresden https://quiltingtutorials.com/tutori...quilt-tutorial

I'd have to actually see the fabric maybe some shade of light taupe might work as the background with the jelly roll fabrics as the dresden pattern. The background is large enough to put a nice quilting design into it. Maybe using a slightly darker taupe or a shade of flax or light gold for the quilting thread. I like subtle sometimes and I think the pale jelly roll fabric will be the pop factor in the quilt. (Although, as always.....I could be wrong :-)
