My 2 cents worth: To choose a color pallett I would think like a salesperson.

      1. When will the quilt go on display
      2. When will the raffle sales begin
      3. When will the raffle actually occur

Most ticket buyers, are going to buy near the end of the raffle, and are going to be interested more in a quilt that will match the current season or upcoming Holiday(s).

So if the raffle is in the spring, I would choose more bright colors
if in the summer, I would think more patriotic colors (4th of July)
if in the fall, think fall leaf colors
if in the late fall, or early winter, think Christmas colors.

I have to agree with Caroline. But for an any time of year quilt...I personally would go with a controlled scrappy. Those always seem to sell the best at craft shows and such.

Last year we had 30 quilts for the Shriners Childrens Raffle/auction. I find like Caroline said, the time of the year dictates what people are drawn to. In april the most Popular quilt was the Easter colors (pink, yellow, purple, pastels), Along came summer and the bright oranges and the beachy blues were a hit. In Feb. the Valentines take front and center. See the trend. Browns didn't ever attract anyone.
I agree with AuntieMern that scrappy is always attractive with bright prints.

I would also think about who is going to be buying your tickets. If it is a younger audience, they may be drawn to more contemporary patterns in bright colors, where older folks may want something more traditional.

Sharyn - I've never heard of this website either! Thanks for sharing. That's always the most difficult thing for me to decide is the color and combinations to use for a quilt. I usually end up with pre-cuts to take the mystery out of it. So how do you use these color palettes to decide what to use in a quilt? Just curious what inspires you.
