It's done with odd shaped triangles. You need the pattern or the ruler to cut. I'm in the middle of one.
The outer triangles are pieced with black to finish.
You can do the middle with a hexi and equilateral triangles. But to put the others on you would probably need a Y seam. Her cutting diagram avoids those.
I'm too lazy, but maybe someone with EQ 5-7 can figure it out.

Thanks for the link. I just found the pattern in my book 1001 Patchwork Designs. It is called Tea Box in it. It doesn't have the half diamond on the outside like Jaybird's quilt. I'll try to add it. If it doesn't come out I'll just do the 6 star "tea box". Again thanks for the link.
I made myself 3 different patterns. 12" 18" 24" I'll use the 18" to make the quilt.
