    Background color choice

I am making a quilt with Artisan Batiks - Prisma Dyes Sparkling Waters Ten Square from MSQC website & I don't always like to use white as the background. Any suggestions on what other color I might use in place of white. I have also attached a picture of the pattern. Thank you for any suggestions.

Never used these prisma dyes, but they sure are beautiful. I just did a search on M* and put in Artisan Batiks prisma dyes. They have one called Platinum but whatever you use I am concerned it will be awfully similar to the lightest blue in your palette. Maybe a black batik?

I would use the palest blue that would match. I think it would be gorgeous. I will follow the answers here, not too sure about substituting black--wouldn't that turn out too dark? Just IMHO

Grey and blue look good together.

I think this batik one would look nice. It's white, but not stark white, and has some of the light blue in it

How about a contrasting color. Since orange is the opposite of blue, but to tone it down, maybe a peach color?

Also, some people like blue and yellow together. How about a nice pastel yellow.

Or a light tan like khaki.

I was thinking: gray, black, yellow. Tan might give a cool "beachy" feel.

I was also thinking a tan or beige batik for the background....a sandy color. I've seen beige batik backgrounds on other quilts and they really make the bright colors stand out.

I think the fabric is beautiful. I'm wondering...how about pulling out that green one (number nine counting from the top) and using that color. It contrasts beautifully with the blues and using it solely as a background instead of one of the blocks would bring a great deal of interest into the pattern

I think one of the following would look really nice. Granted two of them are out of stock at the moment. But worth a look.

The last one might be too dark.

A muted yellow or a beige with yellow undertones.

Could really go more modern and pop it with something from the magenta family like in Bonnie Hunter's Mystery quilt this year!

Or, if you want to really play it safe a light grey.

I think a beachy tan/sand would look great.

But I also think it really depends on your own style/preferences. Geens or oranges pr yellows would work if you like - finding the right one may be tricky. You could get a charm pack or two that have colors you'd like to try to audition them in person (and bonus - you'd have the beginnings of another quilt )
