    1/4 seam guide

I seem to be having a bit of trouble with my seams. I know there are many guides out there, but I would like ,to know if anyone has tried the ideal seam guide. They state that it is reusable and leaves no residue. I have a top loading bobbin and find most tape methods troublesome as I have to move them to change the bobbin.

Any new ideas or suggestions appreciated.

I have not tried the ideal seam guide but it looks like it should work. For me what works best is the 1/4-inch pressure foot.

        1/4 seam guide

Has anyone tried the ideal seam guide. It has a tacky side to stick to your machine. Just wondering how good/bad it is. I would like to try a guide, but have problems as I have a top loading bobbin and always have to remove the guide to fill the bobbin.

        Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.

        Thanks
        Debbie

A command strip is reusable and does not cost much. You can re-position it several times before it looses too much sticky.

I also use one of these: http://www.craftcritique.com/2009/08...ic-seam-guide/
So far it's never bothered my computerized machines. I asked the Babylock dealer if it was okay to use and they said yes. But I would ask whomever you bought your machine from if it's okay to use it.

              Re: 1/4 seam guide

I love the dritz magnetic seam guide bc it really stays in place. But when I got a new machine,I discovered I couldn't use it because the entire area surrounding my presser foot is all plastic and there was nothing to stick it to. The other after I bought it thing I don't particularly like is the section at the front of my machine directly in front of the presser foot curves down rather than being at a sharp 45 deg angle, so strips and things like that do not stick as well as if they were on a purely flat or sharp angle surface. Oh well. Live and learn as my Mom used to say.

I have placed a dot with a permanent marker on the lip of my machine which is about 3 inches from the needle. I line up the fabric on that dot and also with the foot. This keeps me sewing straight at not cost and no attachments.

I have a seam guide decal that I bought for about $10.00 on line. DH fixed it to the machine, cut out the bobbin area, put a little piece of clear wide tape on it, were the end of the decal met the rolled edge of the machine going into the base. Best $10.00 I've sent in a long time. Kathy

Does the decal you bought have a name?

Like the link provided by Vonnie - Frog tape, Painter's blue tape or a stack of Post It Notes will help provide a ridge to help with the alignment. I prefer to line up the edge of the fabric with the edge of the presser foot and then adjust the needle position for a scant 1/4" seam.

Best wishes for many successful projects.

There is someone who taped an expired credit card to her machine. She placed it 1/4 away from the needle, and cut it where the bobbin case opened, to allow it to slide with the cover.
