Here is a link to a tutorial from Sew Mama Sew for a Ticker Tape Quilt.

And here is a link to Crazy Mom Quilts for her scrappy vortex tutorial that you might like.

Kelly at My Quilt Infatuation has a nice tutorial also. She uses bigger scraps in this tutorial.

Not sure if the link will load:

This is an example of what I mentioned above. You can see they put the fabric a little closer but the just sew from one scrap on to the next.

I would use a straight line stitch as doing zig zag around all those corners will drive you nuts. My LQS uses this technique a lot on quilts and generally just sews from one block to the next without doing a backstitch. Now on their quits, they tend to have the fabric pieces a little bit closer so the background is not so noticeable but if it was me, I would probably use a thread that matches the background and just sew around one and then move on to the next. You will have to sew over a side from time to time to keep moving and you may want to backstitch a stitch or two when you just need to move on. Also, I would set my stitch length to 2 as the smaller stitches will help secure it.

    Re: ticket tape quilt

I have never heard of a ticker tape quilt before, but I LOVE using my scraps, so I did a quick query. Have you seen this site? I think it may answer all your questions.

    http://www.stitchedincolor.com/2011/...ials-list.html

I am now adding this method to my list of "wanna makes". I don't think I will use the rainbow approach, though. I'll just probably pick a background color, cut it into blocks, and then QAYG the scraps.

Please keep us updated on your progress, and, of course, show us your final results. I know the quilters who post on the weekly WIP threads would love to see your progress.

    ticket tape quilt

I have been just cleaning up studio and was about to throw out a heap of tiny scraps. I always feel so guilty tossing them out so got looking to see if i could use them some way. I came across ticket tape quiots and would like to make on. My question is if i raw edge them wil the back look very messy from reversing on each piece and if i zig zag will the same thing apppy? Id real lone to hear how you all made them and if they wash well
Working...
