What is your thread preference for Long Arm Quilting Machines?

My Babylock Crown Jewell II does extremely well with Signature thread.

Does really bad with Mettler. Also does really bad (shredding) using 60 wt thread on top.

What type of machine do you have and what are your preferences on thread.

What thread have you used that was a royal pain.

Also, has anyone successfully used clear thread on your Longarm?

    Ideas/thoughts/problems you want to share?

    1. I have a Voyager 17, and use Glide thread almost exclusively on it
    2. King Tut. Frayed and broke
    3. Yes, but it was a PIA
    4. Try all different kinds! You'll find one brand your machine loves.

I was talking to a professional longarm quilter today and she uses both Signature and Glide but with the Glide she uses a net/sock. To you have to use anything over your Glide thread?

What is a net/sock? I have a Baby Lock Tiara II LA. I use 40 wt. King Tut or Signature threads. I have some Glide, but I haven't yet tried it. Karen McTavish uses Glide. These are the same threads I used for FMQ on my DSM before I bought the LA. I also have used 50 wt. cotton threads with both machines. I've never any other brands of thread for FMQ quilting. I once used Aurifil with my walking foot for stitching on a binding, but it's not a brand I regularly use.

I have a Blockrockit and use exclusively Superior Thread. Predominantly Omni but I have also used SoFine and Bottom Line. I did once try the Connecting Threads thread and it was too linty. The machine hated it. I tried it twice with the same bad results.

Thanks for the pics of the net/sock. Never heard of this before, but it makes sense.

Re: What is your thread preference for Long Arm Quilting Machines?

I have a TinLizzie ESP. I have only used Superior King Tut (40wt) in the top and SoFine (50wt) in the bobbin. Thus far, this has always worked for me without problems, so I don't fix something that is not broken.
                Have not used clear thread.

I've used my King Tut on a APQS ( I think Millineneum) machine (rental). Had lots of issues with thread breakage on this machine. Talking to the studio owner, she always uses Glide thread with her machines. Includes it in the rental price, but I wanted the cotton thread and already had it, so I dealt with the breakage.

I agree with the others, try lots of thread and find what works best with your machine.

                    Nope, never have.

I have a Block Rockit that loves both Signature Omni and Isacord. I've used So Fine in the bobbin successfully but have discovered my particular machine just seems to perform flawlessly using the same thread upper and lower - and I like the look better! Isacord, purchased from United Threads, is very reasonable (as longarm thread goes), performs beautifully and is my first choice. As much as I adore Aurifil 40 & 50, and it is the only thread I use for piecing, my longarm hates it! I've not tried clear thread in the longarm. Haven't needed to use nets/socks.

I have an Avante by handiquulter and never really had thread problems....I mainly use superior threads, my favorite is So Fine, and Bottomline depending on what im doing. Magnifico is also one of my favorites, adds a little shine. Omni is great for that cotton look but tends to be more linty. King tut is also amazing, but i dont use it as often. Ive found the key is using the right size needle with diff. threads. Superior has a chart with proper needle sizes on their website. Ive also used their clear thread and it works wonderfully.

I recently rented time on a HandiQuilter Simply Sixteen and just used my 50 wt Aurifil. It sewed beautifully. When I get my machine, I will test out other options.

I have ano older Handiquilter 16 and use exclusively Magnificent from Superior Threads. Tried many different threads before finding out what works the best. I use the prewound Super Bob's in the bobbin. This combination with the tension set right is a no-fail for me.

                              Magnifco. Auto correct mistake.
