Illusion quilt

I am going to be doing the Illusion quilt soon. How much fabric should I get for the background. The tutorial says the finished size is 64x84

If you make according to tutorial with one layer cake it says you need 1 1/2 yards of Ltd gray and 2 yards of white.

I guess I asked the wrong question, sorry about that. What I wanted to know was how much backing fabric I would need for a quilt that size. Thanks

5 1/8 yards if you are allowing 4 inches for quilting.

This says 3 1/2 yds

84 (divided by) 36 = 2.33
so you would need that times 2 which is 4.66
and yes, more than that for quilting so 5 or even 5 1/8th would be correct!

Or if you have a non directional backung, you can have a horizontal seam and use 4 yds.
64+8=72 which is 2 yds
2x2 widths = 4yds.

Personally, I wait until the quilt top is pieced,
Measure the top, and figure how much backing
fabric I need. The larger the quilt, the more
I allow for the quilting will need.
Generally around 4 inches for all 4 sides.
