    Help with a wrinkled quilt

Hi have a big problem with my quilt that I was about to quilt...... We are going through renovations and someone bunched up my quilt that was going to be quilted it is pin basted and now I have all these wrinkles all over it. Is there anyway I can still quilt it without having problems quilting it on a reg sewing machine ..... I am a new quilter so I have no Idea if this will effect the out come of the quilting process of quilting it. I would appreciate any help I can get from anyone else that has experienced this or know someone that has had this problem

I have never had this happen, so I am un-sure of the answer. Sounds like it might be a good idea to take it apart to iron it.

Or flatten it out and just steam it.

Thank you for responding so quick ....... I was thinking the same thing I guess i will be taking it apart. I'm just so sad cause there is so much work went into already but sometimes you just have to suck it up and get it done and learn from mistakes...... Next time I will have to hide it so no one can touch it

I never had this happen but I hand quilt and always have one ongoing in my wicker basket. I almost never fold it, just bunch it up and lay it in the basket so I can see (sort of) where I left off. My current one is also pin basted and wrinkling is not an issue. I would NOT take it all apart and iron it and then re-pin. That is slot of extra work. The fabric will flatten itself out as you sew on it. Just my opinion!

Awww Tracey, so sorry you have this extra work. I would seriously consider steaming it first as it really should relax the fibres and release all those wrinkles. Let us know how you are doing with this.

Do you have enough backing to roll over to the front? Roll twice to cover the raw edges and pin on the front. Then you could spritz a little and throw it in the dryer a few minutes. That may relax the wrinkles for you

Wonder if downy wrinkle release & hanging it over a banister or something would work?? Just thinking out loud.

I think ironing the sandwich would take care of your wrinkles. You shouldn't need to un-do the sandwich.

"ironing the sandwich" reminds me of my sister in her college dorm, using an iron to make grill cheese sandwiches!

When you say wrinkles, do you mean the fabric is folded over onto itself or that the fabric is just not pressed and has some wrinkle marks?

If it's just wrinkle marks, that can be quilted with no problem.

If it's little folds that are the wrinkles, then the pin basting didn't hold and you might have to repin. I don't know if this could happen though. I don't pin baste anymore but I've folded pinned quilts before and they were fine.
