    Washing batiks

Hi. I am using batiks for the first time. I was wondering if I have to do anything special when I wash the quilt for the first time. I always wash the quilts when I finish the binding and add several colour catchers to the load and so far I have never had any regular fabrics that give me any trouble. Just wondering about the batiks.

    Thanks

    Re: Washing batiks

One of the first quilts I made, I used Batiks in a class and they sold me Synthrapol. A liquid made to remove excess dye from fabrics and it worked well. A few years later I made another Batik quilt and used Color Grabbers when I washed it. Both worked fine. To me the color grabbers are easier and less expensive.

I use a lot of batiks and I always us color catchers in the wash. It surprises me sometimes which ones bleed. I've had some where the yellows bleed more than the darker colors.

use color catchers and if your quilt bleeds into other fabric make sure not to dry it,rewash with new color catchers until the bleeding stops.
