Re: Binding
I trim mine all to the fabric and usually use a 2 inch binding because I like a narrow full binding. I also generally sew my binding to the front and hand stitch to the back of quilt. Will machine sew on binding if charity has requested it or if it is a baby quilt that will get lots of wear and tear.

Re: Binding
I leave an extra 1/8 inch batting and back after seeing the binding on. I cut my binding at 2 1/2 inches. The extra batting fills in the binding so it is not weak or floppy.

Re: Binding
I trim to the edge and use a 2-1/4" strip. I don't care for a lot of binding on the back.

Re: Binding
I also trim all the way to the fabric edge. I've tried both ways and find it easier to trim to the edge and it makes the mitered corners fold better. I use 2.5" binding.

Re: Binding
I trim to the edge and I use 2 1/4" binding pretty much all the time. The only time I use 2 1/2" is if I'm binding something thick, like a flannel quilt.

Re: Binding
I trim all the batting off all the way around to just the edge of the fabric. Make sure to square up all 4 corners & trim first before trimming the rest of the sides. I use 2.5" binding width.

Binding
I am getting ready to trim a quilt for binding. I have watched a few videos and some say trim everything next to the top and others say they leave a 1/4" batting above the top-so what do you do? I know it is really personal preference but just curious. Also what is the width of your average binding. Again I know sometimes it depends on the quilt and design but on the average what is the size. Thank you
