I just tested a paper pieced block that is made up of 4 identical sub-blocks. When I did the final construction of the block I found that all the seams were in the same direction, resulting in some bulk. If I'd been doing normal piecing, I would have pressed the seams in alternate directions so they nested. Is there a recommended technique that one should use to avoid this situation, or do I just need to live with it? Since the blocks are constructed from the center out I am not really able to change the piecing order to result in alternate seam directions. Thank you in advance to anyone with advice.
