I am thinking of entering a contest in which the theme is

"Moving Family Traditions forward with the Arts" and trying to come up with a design or idea for a quilt or wall hanging.
Any suggestions??

That's so open to interpretation. There are so many arts. Singing is considered an art. What interests you? I wish I went to film school. So just think back to your dreams and wishes.

If you want to do a quilt or hanging maybe use fabrics that show vintage sewing machines and such and progress how the models and items progressed through the years until now? You can do something like that with fashion, cars almost any topic? Old coke bottles, planes, typewriters to computer?

Can you look at past entries and winners for a general idea of the types of entries?

A wall hanging might seem artsy to non quilters. What jumps to my mind is doing something modern, perhaps mixed media, and using old tools and techniques. You could even show how reproduction fabrics and styles are made new and exciting by modern technique. I'm just thinking of things combining what past generations did with current quilting.

The art of quilting.....perhaps an arrow that points toward the future. But really, the art of quilting, and by you quilting, you are creating new family traditions, and keeping that art moving forward.
