    Quilting with contrasting threat

I am making a tote bag that has a lot of dark blue in the fabric. It's a charm tote bag from batiks in shades of tan and blues. I've made several of these in different fabrics and have always quilted them with a white or off-white thread on my embroidery machine, but I'm thinking of using dark blue for the quilting on this one. I'm using an all-over stipple pattern. What do you think? I'm new to using my embroidery machine to quilt and I'm loving it but a little afraid of stepping out of the box on this one.

I say go for it ,unless you really want your quilting to be noticeable.

High contrast quilting is beautiful if you can do it well. It really shows every little jiggle and wiggle. I might attempt it with my embroidery machine, but not free motion.

I've used high contrast on the front of quilting and with many it looks great (some, not so). In the beginning I didn't realize you could used a different color bobbin thread (not sure why I thought this LOL). So I now use an off white or similar bobbin thread and the contrasting top thread. Don't forget to post a pic when you are done, we'd love to see it!

I have done quilts in the past with high contrasting thread. If you do it right, you will end up with a wow!

I don't know how to machine quilt, but if you have any scraps leftover I would do some samples of one or two colors you are considering so you don't practice on the real thing!

I made a Quatrefoil in blues and used a dark blue for the backing. I put variegated blue thread in the bobbin and on top and the back was like a whole cloth quilt! It turned out great. Even though it is high contrast, I think the contrast is so great that your eye doesn't see the bobbles and there were bobbles aplenty.
