    border width

After sewing my blocks together they measure 53"x 61". The quilt is to be used by a young boy on his first big boy bed so I am thinking I do not want it much wider but extra length would be nice. Would it look strange to put say a 4" border on the sides and a 6" on the top & bottom? This is the quilt I am making

It is a bit different because I did not have the exact variety of colors.

Beth, it's your quilt. There are NO QUILT POLICE (actually I have a powerful spray that I use to keep them at bay . . . just in case some may decide they want to apply for this position). There's not that much difference in the size of the borders and the average person will not notice any difference.

I have a CA king sized bed....well, two of them. They are basically square, so I do add length with wider borders to be able to tuck some under the pillows. Works for me. Looks fine.

It will not look strange at all - and I think most will not even noticed the borders are a different width. I even have a purchased pattern where, depending upon the size of the quilt, the borders are of different widths. Go for it.

I have done this many times to add extra length to a quilt.

I just did this with a crib quilt, needed it wider. I added an extra border to the sides and I think it looks great. I agree with Sandy, no quilt police! Although I might want to get some of that spray of hers, just in case!

I think that would work great. I made a throw for my father in law cause he is always cold and I did the same thing just made the border wider and put 2 borders on it until it was large enough. he loved it
