    Help with quilt

I am making my son a quilt that will look like the Texas flag. I am not using a pattern, but that isn't the problem. I have the red & white part finished, but am stuck on how to do the white star on the blue background. I don't know how to paper piece so I'm not sure if that is an option. I think the star needs to be 12x12. I have not been able to find the 5 point star pattern that size either. I would really the star to be part of the quilt not on top of it. Any suggestions?

This tutorial looks easy. It is the only 5 star block I could find that isn't paper pieced. She uses a 10" square but you could cut yours 12 1/2" if you want it to finish at a 12" square.
