    Beach blanket quilt

A friend has given me several yards of denim, and I'm thinking about making a quilt top to use with the denim as backing. It should be strong enough to last as a quilt to use for the little ones to play at the sandy beach. Any suggestions about what should go on top? Lots of color, perhaps? Thanks in advance for all suggestions!.

Denim makes a great quilt backing for just about every environment....so rugged. Just note that it will be heavy!

What a fun quilt. I love your idea about using bright colors. How about sea horses, star fish, crabs, lobsters, mermaid, fish kind of fabrics. Or maybe an eye spy quilt.

A friend of mine made a rag quilt using denim and quilting fabric. The nice thing is when you're done with the blocks you're done. http://www.equilters.com/library/jea...gallbaros.html

why not terry cloth for the top? Soaks up the water and looks pretty. If you have some old towels you could crazy quilt them for a top. That way you could use washcloths thru bath towel sizes. A surfboard quilt could be cute. I would use the skateboard pattern and just leave off the wheels. Maybe flip-flops around for a border?

I might avoid terry cloth or a rag quilt if your purpose is to use it at the beach. Think of the sand getting stuck in all that extra texture.
