    Ending binding on quilt

I don't have a binding tool. I had not ever heard of one until I watched Jenny's new tutorial on Binding a Quilt.
My problem how do I put the ends together without the binding tool?

Try this tutorial by Alicia's Attic. I found it for myself, but have to admit I haven't done it this way as yet. Then again, I've only bound two quilted items in my life.

I join my binding without using a tool, but it is the same procedure. The trick is to overlap the one end with the other by the width of your binding. i know this is not a good explaination . Ex. your binding is 2 1/2 inches wide. leave both ends loose about 6-8 inches. Lay one flat against the quilt, take the other end and lay it down over the first piece. measure 2 1/2 inches from the end of the first piece and mark. trim off excess. pin ends right side together at right angles. Sew diagonally across binding. The binding should fit perfect when you lay it back down.
Now i say that, and most of the time it will for me, but I get in a hurry and twist the binding the wrong way and have to re-do it. If you're unsure, pin or baste it first, before you cut anything.

There's a good binding tutorial on Jaybird Quilts. She has other tutorials that show how to cut continuous binding and bind curves too.

I use the Connecting Threads technique each time I bind a quilt. Works perfect everytime. I also have used the binding tool but haven't had as good of results.

                        Re: Ending binding on quilt

I made a cute tiered skirt for my little granddaughter, and wanted to apply a decorative ribbon band around the top of the tiers. I used this same method for joining the quilt binding to apply the ribbon. It worked great!

After viewing the tutorial, that is what I wound up doing, just did not cut the tail until I was through. Thanks so much for all the assistance.

I will have to try this . . . once I get to that point on any of the five quilts I have started. LOL!
