    What is stippling?

    Hi all,

Naive question from a learner quilter!! What is stippling? I've seen the phrase used in relation to free motion quilting and just wondered what it means.

    Thanks

    Re: What is stippling?

Stippling is a common form of "filler" quilting. Either done by hand or by machine, it creates a pattern of closely-sewn, roaming lines that fill background spaces on a quilt. A few shapes are repeated throughout stippling, but not so frequently to create a rigid effect. Instead, stippling has more of a random, wandering appearance to it. Often used around appliqué, stippling makes the surrounding areas appear raised.
Sometimes, when there's a raging fire,
it's best not to try to put it out with gasoline.

    "...pal carajo con la negatividad..."

Great explanation Sandy. I am sitting here doodling and drawing with my finger, but can't put it into words that would be anywhere close to explaining this. As always, you have the words!
