    Where do you start quilting?

I'm about to embark on machine quilting my first quilt - where do I start?

This may be a very naive question for which I apologise! Do I start machining in the middle? or can I start on one edge?

Its a hand-stitched hexagon design (not much design but lots of hexagons!) and I plan to stitch around each hexagon!

All suggestions will be gratefully received!

    Thanks Elaine

I start in the center when I machine quilt.

In the centre....That will help your fabrics to keep flat. Starting on the edges may leave excess material when you get to the centre.

Re: Where do you start quilting?

Begin in the middle. That way your can ease your fabric and keep it nice and smooth as you go, You could have a real problem if you begin at the edge. I know you will be doing a lot of turning and twisting to get around all your hexagons, but take your time and keep checking the back to keep it smooth and you will do fine. Let us know how its going....Good Luck, Barb

Middle! Will help keep the layers together so you don't have stuff scooting around and become out of place. Even with the best pin basting this happens.

I always start in the middle, then work around the edges in a clockwise direction.

Always start in the middle. If your fabrics shift you could have a mess.
