    scrap strip blocks

i am trying a scrap strip block quilt....it will be a variation of 9 patch....each block in that patch is made by using a very think gauzy square....and putting scrap strips diagonally on one at a time. the end result is a bit thicker than an ordinary block

so....now that i have all my thick blocks done how do i compensate for lack of thickness in the sashings and borders?

maybe i should take a pix to explain the block construction??

I really don't think you will notice the different thickness that much once it's quilted. If it does bother you, buy a heavier weight fabric for borders/sashing.

BTW, your blocks look nice. much better than the ones I did using paper as the foundation.

it's an amazing process.....fabrics that just outright clash come together nicely. i guess i could do a whole quilt of them, but i find that i tire quickly. i also find myself to be a "quilting floozie"...ie: cheap and easy ! sashing and borders help make something appear larger....and in this quilt will take away from the mismatched craziness....i hope.

i will look into thicker fabric for the border etc. thanks

You could also back the sashing fabric with the same gauzy layer, but I agree you won't need it. And the joins would be thicker too.

I don't think you need to worry about it either, when you layer with batting the difference won't be noticable. (IMHO)

I agree with all these others that you don't need to worry about the thickness differences once it's layered into a sandwich quilt.
