    Direction of pressed seam help

Asking for help/correct way (or is there a correct way?) . I am working on a top that is made of strips made from 5 inch squares. These strips need to be connected. In what direction should the seams be pressed? Hw to handle all of the "junction" of where all of these seams meet (every corner of the squares).

I do hope I have exlained my question.

I always press to the darker fabric. When I sew my rows together and my seams are facing the same direction, I just force one to go the opposite direction. If all your seams I row 1 face to your right, press your next rows seams to the left. This will help your seams fit snug. Hope this helps.

If you are sewing rows togheter press row 1 to left and row 2 to right then the seams will nest just fine.

When I work with rows of same-sized blocks, I press (like Swedish Leo) one row toward the left and the next row toward the right. That way the seams will nest.

Some people press all their seams open. As long as you don't plan stitch-in-the-ditch, that works fine too. I press seams open when lots of seams meet in a point.

If I remember correctly, Leah Day presses her seams open. She also shortens her stitch length. I think to 1.5

            Has anyone else heard this?

When making a quilt like an around the world or charm squares connected, EVEN number rows I press to the right, ODD number rows I press to the left, then when I sew the rows together, they snuggle in all cozy and happy.

Yes, I saw that on one one of her youtube videos.

I decided myself to use this technique when seams are along the bias (like in HST).

I almost never press seams open. When one seam goes one way and the other seam goes the other way, they nest together and you get much better matching seams.
