Is 45 by 52 too small for a lap quilt?

My group gives quilts to people who are ill, having hard times, or sometimes we donate for silent auctions. I'm making a chevron quilt and have enough rows for this size. I really don't want to cut and piece more blocks, but keep thinking this size isn't quite large enough.
    What do you think?

Also I'll have to get one more print to make the quilt any wider. Each row is a different fabric. I'll gladly do it if necessary, but thought it might be worth asking here. This one has colors we'd give to a woman, not a manly looking quilt at all.

I'm five feet tall, so not the best person to judge quilt sizes, haha.

    Thanks

I usually make mine bigger than yours, but I am the shortest in my house at 5 feet 9 inches. What if you add a bigger border to ad to it's size?

I'm 5'2'' and when I curl up I get really short. lol, A lap quilt isn't a blanket to me, just a comfy throw to keep my shoulders or feet warm when I curl.

It's a wonderful thing you are doing

I made my last one 58 x 58 and it's a bit short for my 6'2" hubby. Doesn't stop him from using it though.

I make all sizes. Depending if I run out of fabric, dont want to border, whatever. They are all used! Some big some little. Who knows that may be just the perfect quilt size for someone!

The ones I have made were about 50ish x 70ish inches but we wanted them long enough to tuck under I feet & cover our shoulders. I did make one shorter for my MIL because she is a lot shorter.......I am 5'9''. Also consider whether it will be used as just a lap & leg cover.

Not a bad size really. My mom was given one about that size, usually she just kept it over her legs for a bit of extra warmth.

Thanks so much for your comments. It could end up going to someone to take to dialysis, somebody going through chemo, who knows. I'd assume larger would be better in those cases, so looks like I'll be adding some more blocks to the quilt. It's going to be a pretty one!!! I'll share a picture eventually.

I tbink it would be a nice size for someone in a wheelchair... not as likely to get caught in the wheels and still big enough to tuck.

That's what I was thinking, too...for someone in a wheelchair. I also make them in all sizes...whatever mood I am in...or how much fabric I have, how tired of it I am, or if I am too lazy to go buy bigger batting, I will cut and run!

                      I was just thinking that.

I'm sure they would give the quilt to whomever would fit it. A wheelchair user as suggested would not want a large quilt and that size would be perfect. Can't wait to see a pic.

I am 5'8" and I am the small one in my family, and my favorite size for lap quilts is around 40" by 60". Maybe because we live in a warm country, we expect lap quilts to cover just the legs. Any time I've used a larger blanket/quilt I've ended up folding it. Good luck with your project!

I was once told, quilts are like people they come in all different sizes. I think that is a great size.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the comments. Ended up talking with a friend of mine who'd gone through chemo a few years ago. She said the only part of her body that stayed cold was her feet, so she'd put on warm socks and wrap blankets around her feet to try and help.
I guess my size would work for anyone if they react the same way.

I've decided to just add one more row, making it 45 by 60 inches.
