    Stupid question

This is probably a stupid question but does anyone know if machine embroidery thread would be suitable for quilting with? I have quite a few reels now redundant because I sold my embroidery machine .
I have tried it on scraps and it looks lovely but would it be robust enough to last? I wouldn't like to quilt a project and then find the threads breaking or something.
As you probably guessed I don't know much about threads
    Thank you

I quilt with it all the time. I know there are many who think cotton is the only way to go but I disagree with that.

Sure you can. You may need to switch your needle out to one that is suitable for embroidery threads but go for it.

        Re: Stupid question

I have used it on my own things and I haven't had any issues with it breaking or melting. It's like anything else..some people like it and some people don't. It's all a matter of what works for you.
Oh, and by the way...no question is stupid. We learn by getting the answers from all the talent and experience here.

            Re: Stupid question

I use it if I want it to shine! LOL - in my opinion, it's stronger then the clear thread. Which I think breaks easily.

              Re: Stupid question

Until I retired I worked at an embroidery shop and most embroidery threads these days can be boiled in the wash. So I say if anything it would be stronger and certainly colourfast.

I think that was a great question because I have often wondered that myself. Thank you for asking it.

This was a great question! I use regular thread in my serger and never thought about it not working. I just wanted to match colors better.Never hurts to try things

                            Re: Stupid question

When I took a FMQ class I was told by the teacher that it was great to quilt with embroidery thread. Since I have a bunch of it in many colors it is what I have used and love the results.
