Auntiemern was correct about needing to have your fold straight. It's also important to straighten the cutting edge after ever 3-4 strips.

Re: grrrrrr!!! When I cut strips

i'm another June Tailor ruler fan. I am NOT a careful fabric squarer-upper. And with this baby, my strips are perfect every time. I nearly choked when the shop owner hauled it out and told me how much it costs, but after using it for a couple of months, I can tell you I'd pay any price!

I also press the "bolt fold" out of the fabric first. It makes it easier for me to get the true fold straight.

Some very good ideas here. Thank you ladies.

sassygranny would you direct us to the ruler you love? I'm curious.

I was curious to watch the posted video but it won't work for me. Am I doing something wrong. Just a black screen and no visual at all.

I do that too. Sometimes the fabric has been on the bolt so long that the fold line is super sharp. I feel like ironing it relaxes the fabric so I can refold it more accurately.

So do I! But you must be careful with the fold just the same!

Thank you for asking that question. I have the same problem. I remembered seeing something on Fons and Porter once, but forgot how they said to remedy it so I am glad you got these responses.

The tip I was given is to line up your ruler with the folded edge and this stops the bowing.

The ruler she is using is 12 inches wide, I prefer the 18 inch Plus. One hint, make sure you have your fabric folded evenly, especially on the folds. The ruler is a little pricey, and when the teacher in a class I took said we had to have one I debated on making the investment. I am oh so glad I did. Good Luck.

YES. I do not worry about grain, lining up selvedges, or anything else. As long as the ruler is lined up on the folded edge, you will not get bowing.
