Do you usually do patterns only when making quilts or just create as you wish..I find them to be confusing myself and just make my own designs... Is there a website that has easy to follow patterns for beginner's?

Easiest quilt, by far, for me was a RAG QUILT. I did not have to cut or sew super-exact (so no pressing, squaring up, etc). Also the Rag Quilt uses 1/2" seam allowance - easier the start with than the 1/4" most quilts use. AND I was able to use Layer Cakes and Charms pre-cuts, so I only had to cut my batting (which you don't really need if using flannel).

Jenny Doan (on this site) has a LOT of tutorials on easy patterns and she walks you through them , step by step. Just click on Quilt Tutorials, on the top of this page. She's a great teacher!:icon_hiya: Coleen

watch these tutiorals (a 4 part) with good information covered. It does not need to be a baby quilt. Use precuts 5" or 10". Using a 10" would end up a twin size and a little big for starting out. Your 5" BLOCKS quilt could end up a table or wall quilt.

Re: Any Easy Patterns for beginner's?
When I use a pattern...by the time I'm 1/2 way through the quilt I can then claim it as my own pattern, because of all the mistakes. I prefer Jenny's tutorials because I can actually see someone making the blocks.
Here's the easiest one I've ever made...just sew charm squares together, add a couple of borders, quilt an X in each block, bind....and it's finished.

I work to support a sewing habit that I don't have time for, because I work!
