    Organizing my Stash!

How do you organize your stash. I began with cardboard but was told it has acid in it so DON'T DO THAT! I have now ordered some magazine boards which are acid free from Amizon.com. Also, Joann's and Hobby Lobby has given me some of their cardboard that their fabric comes in on for the stores. Do you think these are okay and acid free? Suggestions please... I don't know whether to use them or not!

    Thank you!

BTW... here is how I began organizing my stash with cardboard boxes I cut up...

Whatever you use should be fine. Some of mine has been on bolts from the stores for years and it is just fine

I just fold and stack mine. I could go broke buying boards for everything! But I do kind of enjoy re-organizing it all. After awhile, it gets a bit wonky from pulling fabric back and forth, so sometimes I just re stack it and make it look nice and it gives a nice new feel to the room.

Any acid that's in the cardboard won't affect your fabric unless it's left on it for eons. As a scrapbooker, we are advised to use acid free but only for the archival reason, so I shouldn't worry about it if I was you.

I was at JoAnn's last night and asked them if they had extra boards. The saleswoman said 'sure! We always have so much - you can always get some when you need them' I took five and will cut them to a good size for me. Then I'll get more when I figure out what I need

I have been using the comic book boards. They come in a pack of 100 and they look so pretty on my shelf. This is my first photo upload. Hope it works! image.jpg

I just finished reorganizing my room. I thought I had a lot of fabric cuz it wouldn't all fit in the shelves standing up like yours,,,
but I have to say, you've got me beat!! No doubt about it, I need a bigger room with more shelves. LOL
Isn't it wonderful to have it all organized & visible??? I'm loving it.

Beautiful organization Babs and Patt! My stash is also on comic book boards. I just love this method. I need a much larger sewing room overall, but I do the best I can with the cabinets I have plus the closet and containers under the beds...and, and, and!

Bubby, I know what you mean.. we changed "bedrooms " here 3 times.. 3rd was the winner... and it gave me my own room... it was DH that came up with what to store stuff in.... these shelves are IKEA and they are only 8" deep, I think 35 high or so... got 2 tower shelves at 11" deep and 6ft. for books and 2 of my sewing machines... he is so good at that stuff it made a huge difference... Of course he has the 2car garage to himself,,, storage above,, the walk in, in the bedroom and 2 closets in his office... the man gets rid of nothing... and tells me I have too much stuff!!!LOL

I don't have my fabric out on shelves b/c I don't want it exposed to the light or collect dust. My stash is folded & kept in those large plastic drawer units. It's generally organized by colors. The smaller 3 drawer units are perfect for FQs. The small, desk top plastic units with drawers work great for storing cones of thread & misc. sewing notions. JCY

I wish I had more shelves, those are beautiful! In a addition to the bookcase I have stash in some nice fabric bins from IKEA in my Expedit shelving unit. In those I keep layer cakes, jelly rolls, fat quarters and kits. All tucked away so DH doesn't really know how much fabric is in my sewing room.

image.jpg I use the comic boards. Here's some of my stash. I don't think the quilt store fabric holders are acid free.

I have some of those small drawer units too, they do work great for thread & I keep my foundation papers & other miscellaneous items in them too.
I used to have the big ones holding my stash, but decided I would rather have it out where I can see & access it. It's easier for me to find what I'm looking for & I can "shop" my stash first. I do have curtains that go across the closet when I'm not in it, so hopefully that will help protect against any damage from the light & dust coming in.
