Downton Abby fabric

I am a beginner quilter. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for an easy quilt pattern that i can use the Downton Abby fabrics i have. Thank you

I would recommend looking at some of the tutorials here - see what strikes your fancy and run with it! Have fun

I am a beginner too.(now on my 2nd quilt) I am doing this pattern now.

( Best start with no triangles/points-my 1st quilt points did not match very well). I am using French Collection Josephine by Moda. I like the larger pieces show the pretty designs well.
Things I learnt from my first one was make sure to cut and measure accurately and press seams correctly to avoid bulk underneath-this makes machine quilting difficult after as I found!) Good luck.

That seems to be a nice n easy type block. Is that a charm and 2 candies? Did you use precuts or yardage to cut the squares? Buying charms and candies would really move that along! Fun! What is this block called?

I wouldn't necessarily call it an easy pattern, but lovebugstudios.com did a mystery quilt along for downton abbey a few months ago that I participated in. I had only pieced one quilt before trying this one, so it's possible for a beginner and the tutorials online and the instructions included were very clear. And I learned a TON. The pattern is supposed to be published in the next week or two. She did it in the 4 colorways for the downton fabric. I did Mary, but I didn't actually use the downton abbey fabrics. I used similar looking ones that I found. I'm planning to still put a narrow blue border around and then a wider border in maroon. It definitely isn't perfect, but I'm very pleased with how it came out.

When the pattern comes out it's supposed to have different sizes so I'm planning to make a lap size Lady Edith one. I just love the pattern and after seeing other people's quilts, I just fell in love with the colors for Lady Edith. I think it's also supposed to have some matching patterns for pillow shams. There's a facebook page where folks are still working on their quilts and you can see ones that folks have completed. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there in case you'd be interested in doing something like that. The downton fabrics are very pretty and I'm sure whichever pattern you choose will look very nice.

There is a link above the second photo to the quilt pattern. It is called Boxing day by Fave quilts.. A tutorial and fabric list. I used one jelly roll, and then needed 4 light and 4 dark fat quarters( but I could not get FQ so I ordered 1/4 yard cuts. The jelly roll is the right 2 1/2 " width to cut the strips, (it says 31 strips of 22" so I used 16 of each light and dark- be careful though to get the 2 sets from each strip you will have to use most of the selvage. Then from the FQ you need to cut 6 1/2 " squares and 4 1/2 " squares. I also chose this particular pattern, as my first quilt had me cutting everything and that is where I had a problem .

This one took me an afternoon to carefully cut out, then I spent 6 hours the other day doing half the blocks. (half are light center, half are opposite with dark center) I then laid out sets of strips and squares and I chained stitched the 3 rows of each block, keeping them together. Then I pressed each block set of 3 rows, and kept them all in a neat separate block piles. Then I chain stiched the top 2 rows of each block for about 10 blocks, pressed, then chain stiched the bottom row ( they were all in order as I was careful.) Also it is important you keep your seam allowance the same all the time, otherwise this can make some blocks shorter, and this leads to problems joining up/matching later. I learnt all this as my first quilt was very mismatched and I had to go through all the blocks, measuring , finding the smallest and cutting the others down, a real pain... Good luck, let me know if you do this pattern, I would love to see different color ways.

I LOVE the Downton Dowager collection and have been hoarding it since Christmas. for me it is important to do a pattern that shows off the bigger prints. It is shouting a hunters star to me but............I am currently swearing I will never make another Hunters Star as I am just finishing one that measure 120x140 inches. I always swear off a pattern when I am this tired of it though so we will see.
