    Wool Charm Packs

The wool charm packs are so pretty! But...is the wool machine washable?? Has anyone used them? What for?

LOL! They would probably work well for appliqués on decorative pillows, especially with blanket stitching around the edges, However, I would still want the option of being able to wash them if they became soiled. (I guess there is always dry cleaning though.) I love "primitive" appliqués and it seems to me these could be perfect for that. I was hoping to hear that they are washable and to see some projects that have used them. Alas! No responses! But someone must use them or they wouldn't keep them in stock, right?!

I would say that they are washable. Reading the description, it says that they are felted. The process to felt wool is through washing and drying.

If it is felted, and then washed, it is prone to more shrinkage. I have a class tomorrow night and they are doing a BOM in another and I will try to remember to ask about it being washable. I seem to remember being told that it is not.

Hmmm. I bought some wool and pre-washed it since I was going to be using it on Raggedy Ann's shoes & heart patch. It didn't shrink up very much. I'm a double-checker on that kind of stuff though.
The process for felting wool is to put it in the washer & beat the snot out of it, then dry it to tighten up the fibers. You can do the same thing yourself with purchased wool clothing from the thrift stores. The better the wool fabric the less fuzzy the felted look.
The very nature of felted wool would make it washable. My biggest concern would be the color-fasteness of the deep dyes.

would not recommend to wash the real wool.
they do sell that in charm packs

they also sell the "wool and needle flannel" which has the appearance of wool, but is really flannel and that can be washed.

I don't think the wool is washable. I believe most of the wool fabric is used in primitive and decorative projects, rather than for a bed quilt.

What do you know....I remembered to ask! The gal said that you can wash them, mild in cold water only but do not dry. They are hand dyed and you might lose color. Some are made of flannel, but the ones they sell and she uses are wool. And also, they will shrink if placed in the dryer. The losing of color had me.
