    Re: Backing size?

I would say about 4" on each side if you are quilting it yourself, either by hand or machine. If you send it out check with your quilter.

    Re: Backing size?

The longarmer I used said 3'' was enough, but they were both baby quilts. I know Jean makes really big quilts so I know she knows better than me for the size you are doing.

    Re: Backing size?

I would say the minimum needed on all sides would be 4". I can get by with 2-3" on a baby quilt that I'm going to do FMQ on my DSM. Better to have too much than not enough. Check with your LA quilter for requirements.

    Re: Backing size?

If someone is going to machine quilt it on a longarm, they would want 6-8" on all sides bigger than the quilt.

    Backing size?

I can never remember how big to make the backing for my quilt. The quilt I'm working on now will measure 72" square when done. And is there a difference if it is hand quilted or machine quilted? Thanks for any and all help! Lynn
