How much yardage to buy for a queen sized quilt

I am a semi-beginner with 15 laps and two twin sized quilts under my belt. Little by little I am improving. However, I am making a queen sized quilt and want to use a solid I found online that is 108" wide. So, am I correct that I need 3 yards to square that size up? Math was never my strong point. Thanks.

Queens are usually 90" wide by eithe 90" long or longer if you want a pillow tuck. This would give you 15" on 3 sides beyond the top of the mattress. You's need to make it wider if you want to make long enough to go down to the floor. 3 yards is 108", if you need a little wiggle room, get 3-1/4 yards to be safe!

One of my best quilting tools is a 120" tape measure. Sure does come in handy for measuring quilts!

Are you talking about the backing fabric? 3 yards of 108 wide would be enough for the backing of a normal queen size quilt with a little to spare. That's how much I bought when I had MSQC quilt my queen size for me.
