Quilting the Five and Dime Quilt question

I have my Five and Dime quilt on my design wall. The blocks are sewn in rows and need to sew the rows together and add the borders. I used Sweet Serenade fabric and I love how it is turning out, will post a picture when it's together.

However, am wondering how to quilt it. Not sure I want to SID with thickness of the charms and four patch seams.
But, if you FMQ on it what about the edges of the charms after you wash it, how will they look when they curl up?

Question is, how are you doing your Five and Dime Quilt finishing?

    Thanks......Bev

Re: Quilting the Five and Dime Quilt question

My suggestion would be FMQ something (loops, wiggly lines??) on the small charm pieces and something in the layer cake pieces. It would depend on how much you want to quilt & your skill level with FMQ.
I think it would be fine to do an all over meander, this is a busy pattern so I think the quilting should take a back seat to the fabrics. I don't think it would be noticeable if you happened to sew through the part that's supposed to curl up. I don't see that you would be crossing that line more than twice on any one square,,
    Does this make sense??
Good luck and have fun with it.

It will look fine. It won't curl that much according to the tutorial. Because the fabric is pinked and you sew with an 1/8 inch seam.

I am going to take mine to a friend and have her use her quilt machine to finish it. I don't think the design and quilt blocks will be affected after washing that much.

I personally quilt this one in a corner to corner grid pattern. It wouldn't take away from the pattern, but I think would blend well in to it.

I think Marilyn is spot on with her suggestion!! Sometimes the quilting is the show, sometimes it is the top - I think with this one it is the top If you don't want to do the grid, even a diagonal one way would serve the function and look good. Good luck!
