    D9P question

I have a bunch of remnant pieces from flannel shirts. These are all leftover pieces from when pillows and a quilt were made from them. I don't want to throw them away, as there is quite a bit of usable fabric still.
I would like to make her a throw or a bed runner( depending on what I get out of it) using the D9P pattern. Have any of you ever made one using smaller than 5" squares? I was thinking of cutting the scraps to 2 or 3", making my 9patch and go from there. I like the d9p and thought it would look nice using smaller blocks. What do you think?

Ya! Do it! It may be tedious. But using scraps up is awesome!

I think it would look great, but don't go too small, since the middle square is cut into fourths and you need seam allowances for both sewing times (making the 9 patch and then putting the d9p together).

        My D9P was made with 3.5 squares.image.jpg
However, the project is now a UFO. I was not aware that the white squares were running in different directions when the blocks were assembled. I am not happy with it because of that. Someday I will take it apart and fix it. It's a low priority !

          Re: D9P question

Wow, a 2 inch block would become 1.5 when sewn into a 9 patch, cut then sewn again you would end up with it being less than an inch. I'd shoot for 3" blocks at the smallest.

Thanks ladies! Good point on that middle block becoming so small. DUH! Wasn't thinking of that...LOL I think I will stay with a 3-3 1/2 block. I'm working on cutting off all the useable fabric off of 23 shirts, but I'll let you know how it's going.

Your quilt is beautiful the way it is. The white going different ways actually looks really good

I think you should leave it this way..it gives it yet a different way to set up the D9P. I say, add borders and finish it up!
