How bad of an idea is this?

Well, I have run out of an older fabric line and needed 2 more 4.5" blocks but all i have is about a 3.25" strip. So if I cut in half and sew it together to make the last two 4.5" squares will it look absolutely ridiculous in the end.Anyone ever ended up having to do that?

I have done that and tried to place those squares in an out of the way place. It worked out fine, and when it was finished and quilted I had to look to find the pieced block.

I have done that too. Once quilted, you won't notice it.

Happens all the time to quilters! Doloris is right after it is quilted no one will ever know the difference. If it really bugs you when you have finished just put a little applique there. :-)

I have done that, too. After all, a quilt is lots of pieces of fabric sewn together, what harm is one more seam?

Yep, quilty as charged - pun intended! Even did the appliqued hiding technique more than once!

I am guilt, too! When you running short, you do what you have to do! I agree with all the advise that's been given; no one will notice once it's quilted!!!

Guilty here too. I have done this more than once and not always because I only have wrong sizes left. I have measured wrong a time or two (lol, not counting) and have just sewed in the piece I needed. All looks good in the end, especially after quilting and washing.

Too funny, I have the same problem now and was going to do the same thing. I figured after quilting it won't show, and someone just confirmed that!

I've done it too. Just put them "out of the way" somewhere in the top.

Have never had to to it yet, but now that I say this, I am sure in my next quilt, I will have to do it. Glad you found a solution, I would never have thought of it.

Have done that , most likely more than once too ! You will never see it after its quilted and I have even have to scour a quilt top to find where I put those extra pieces depending on the pattern and the pattern of the fabric
