    Opinion Requested on Quilting

I am making this quilt for my DD. It is the Phoebe's Flower Box pattern. It is ready to quilt and after HandsomeRyan's post today I started thinking about doing an S curve stitch. I was originally going to straight line shadow stitch each of the 4 rectangular blocks on the grey. Now I am thinking about doing the S curve stitch down each of the connecting seams. I am not practiced enough to FMQ this yet and stitching around the blocks is going to take a lot of turning for a queen sized quilt. Opinions would be greatly appreciated.quilt.jpg

I think a serpentine stitch would add interest to your quilt. It's already all straight lines and the curve would add a nice touch. I think I would do the serpentine stitch in the center of your dark gray sashing and do an X through the four patches inside each sashing (corner to corner, one large X).

I saw a quilt on a blog, which I can't remember what blog now, that used the large S curve stitch to do all over quilting in rows and it looked really good. The quilt had a lot of squares in it like this one does. She didn't worry about lining the curves of the S up with the next row, it was just random. Almost gave it a meandering type effect.

Do it! Even though I had problems relating to bad thread, I am very happy with the serpentine stitches that I did get put in. Next time I'll use the correct (read: aurifil) thread and it will be a breeze.

I am making my version of this quilt so I would love to see how you eventually quilt it. I'm not sure I can envision doing the curvy stitch down the middle of the sashing pieces. Are you going all the way down each connecting row and then across all of them, or are you going around each block with the curvy stitch? Or: are you sewing on the lines between each block; on each side of the solid strip? Does that make any sense?

If you look at the picture there are seams that run from the top - squares on the left, sashing on the right, through sashing intersection then squares on the right, sashing on the left and so on. This happens both vertically and horizontally. I think I am going to go for it. I like breaking the straight lines. I'll post a picture when I'm finished.
