What stitch length do you use for piecing?

    Hi,

I was just wondering what stitch length that you all use for piecing your quilts?

My new machine's default is 1.8, but that is awfully tiny (hard to rip out if necessary), so I bump it up to 2.4.

What do you set your machine at?

    Thanks.

The default is 2.5 on my Pfaff, I just use it.

The default setting on my Juki for 1/4 Seam is 2.0.

I set mine to 2 on my Janome. It's small enough not to open up if I decide to press the seam open. I do that sometimes if there are a lot of seams coming together in one point.

2.5 except paper-piecing @1.8 and sometimes I drop it down to 2 mm when I deal with smaller pieces.

I use a longer length than the default, 3.0, just because ripping tiny stitches is so difficult!

My machine is set to 2.0 which is where I usually leave it. Occasionally going up to 2.5

I use 2.5 for piecing and bump it up to 3.0 for quilting...
Quilts may come, and quilts may go, but the stitches stay the same.:icon_hi:

2.0 for piecing and 3.0 for quilting on a Babylock Espire. 2.5 for my Juki 98 and do a back stitch at the beginning and ending of a seam and 3.0 for quilting.

For the most part I press to the Dark Side! But, I'm flexible and will press to the light or press open if circumstances warrant it. If I press to the light side, and the light shows the dark/shadow of darker fabric, I make sure the dark side is trimmed just a tad shorter so it won't show through.

For regular piecing, I try to get about 10-12 stitches to the inch. Pfaff, I shorten the default of 2.5 a little. My Bernina default is 2.0 and that's fine for me too.

For paper piecing, I use 1.5 which is pretty tiny and almost impossible to rip so I can see why your default setting is pretty small to see. With the exception of paper piecing, I strive for 10-12 spi. And, of course, I lengthen between 3.0 - 4.0 for top stitching, SITD, and cross-hatching.

My Janomes default at 2.5.... I try to remember to lengthen it a bit when working with flannel....

My machine's default is 2.2 and I leave it there for just about all sewing. I do, however, shorten to 2.0 when I'm joining binding strips on the diagonal since they may take a little more stress on the edges of the quilt - just my opinion.

I run on 2 or 2.5 for piecing, 3 to 3.5 for straight line quilting.

default 2.5 on my Pfaff also. I just go with it so I don't forget to set something different. works well for me.
