    Diagonal lines

The quilt I'm working on is a 58" x 58" square. I'm at the point where the sandwich is about to be made and the quilt ready to be quilted. What I'd like to try is evenly spaced diagonal lines. I was thinking if I could just get that first diagonal center line marked that I can start sewing on, then I can use my quilting bar guide for the rest of the lines.

My question is, how do you mark that line? I've wondered if stretching a piece of yarn from top left corner to bottom right corner then marking under it would work. Or using my chalk pouncer on top of the line and sewing in the negative space left by the yarn would work.

I'm mathematically challenged so measuring out anything is right out.

I use a long ruler and a Clover Chalko marker to make 2 diagonal lines from corner to corner. If you have a quilt bar guide that goes into your sewing foot, you can adjust that to achieve accurate spaced lines. Amazon.com - Clover Chaco Liner Chalk Wheel - Other Sewing Supplies

You can always use painters tape and follow the edge and move the tape as needed.

How about painters tape? Put a strip long enough from one corner to the other.

I use a long ruler and the last bit of soap bars. Just because it makes the quilt smell good while I'm working on it It's always worked well for me.

I used a long ruler and Frixion pens to mark my diagonal lines. It worked well.

How about using a chalk line, like carpenters use to snap a line, or a laser light.

I did think about this, I asked hubby if they sold the snap lines without chalk so I can fill it with my own chalk. He wasn't sure. I'm happy I'm not the only one who thinks like this

I think I'm going to try the tape. I can't get to it this week, and it's making me nuts.

I can't do ANYTHING without my painters tape. Quick, easy, even spacing, no residue, and you can sew over it...but not recommending it. I'm just saying....
It gives me a complete and vivid view of what I will be doing. I don't quite get the same visual effect (and heaven knows I need visuals) with chalk or marking pens.

The lazer light is cool for really huge quilts. I saw a web site for it, but only saved the picture.
