I am pretty new to this quilting thing and have never been good at math. I want to make a quilt out of two packs of charm squares. It would be 8 charms across and 10 down. I would like to put 2.5" of sashing between each charm and then a full strip the runs between all of the rows. With my weak calculations I am figuring that I need 4 yards of sashing fabric. Does that doesn't seem right? Anyone care to help me? Thank you!
Anyone up to helping me figure out yardage?

Re: Anyone up to helping me figure out yardage?
Using my handy dandy QuiltFab app on my apple....it is telling me you will need
2 1/2" sashing strips will be 1 1/2 yards
how's that?
nope...wait....didn't see the part about adding sashing between the charm squares as well...
hmmm
I come up with 1 5/8 yards?? just for the sashing...
using 80 blocks at 4.5" finished size...
counting your rows and columns
9 columns of sashing
11 rows of sashing
sashing = 2.5"Michele

Re: Anyone up to helping me figure out yardage?
I went to my local quilt shop because I needed border fabric for my mom's Double Slice quilt top. I love the place, it has this vintage, antique, old-timey feel to it (in a good way!) - its an old farmhouse with rocking chairs on the front porch and everything. The owner is so nice and when I asked for help figuring out the yardage she whipped an iPad out from under the cutting table and brought up this app!!
I cracked up - and told her how the place has the best of both worlds, antique charm and modern technology and she said, "yeah, I'm a vintage girl - except when it comes to math!".
That app figured my borders perfectly. If I was left to my own devices I would have just bought 4 yards of both and hoped for the best, when it actually calculated less than 2 yards for each one!Vicki
