Need help with denim rag quilt

Hi All; I want to make a rag denim quilt. My question is can I make a ninepatch of 5 inch squares and just back and rag around the entire ninepatch. Would that look hideous? Would appreciate "ANY" help with this. Thanks ..

I've made a few rag quilts, Inspired..... sorry but I'm confused by your question. What do you mean by "back and rag around the ninepatch"? Since the rag quilt is reversible, there isn't a backing that I'm aware of.... but you can rag each square or around the entire ninepatch as you think is best. Perhaps I'm off base here so ..... sorry if I've muddied the water

I understand the question, and I dont see why you cant. Are you going to sew the entire 9 patch with the seams on the outside and then back it or sew the 9 patch with the seams on the inside then back it?
The more I think about it...this will be a really cute quilt. I'm adding it to my to-do list. I've made several rag quilts, but always looking for a new technique.
