There is some stuff called Insul-ite (I think) that has a silvery middle. It is good for pot holders and insulated bags. If you are going to use just "regular" batting I'd choose wool first, then cotton. The synthetic stuff has a lower melting temperature, and may not hold up as well.

I agree with Mia. I made potholders for years using leftover batting with good results. I don't always have the insulbrite on hand either. Batting pieces, oh yeah.
