What is freezer paper?

Good evening everyone in quilting land. I went looking for freezer paper at the grocery store today and I can't find it. Is it the same as wax paper? I don't think we have freezer paper here in Canada at least I can't find any. Where else could it be found? Appreciate your input on this.

Monique, it is not the same as the lunch wrap type waxed paper, we also don't have it in Australia other than from quilting stores and the like. One source I found years ago before the LQS started stocking it was the wrapper around printer/photocopy paper, only problem with this is that it is printed so made drawing applique shapes on it difficult. I'd suggest you try a quilt store (where it will cost you an arm and a leg).

You can find freezer paper here in with the plastic wrap, foil. It's a white paper with a shiney side that is ironed to the wrong side of fabric. I have used it to give fabric body to write on the fabric. Hope this helps

Here the Reynolds company makes it, the same folks who make foil and plastic wrap. It is a plastic coated butcher paper. The plastic side is placed against the meat to prevent freezer burn, so you might try to contact some butcher shops in your area to see if they carry or use it. I found mine in the bigger grocery stores with the foil, plastic wrap and the zip top bags, usually near the parchment paper. You might also try some of the outdoor/sportsman's stores. You know, the kind of places that cater to the hunter and fishermen. They have game that they would probably process themselves and would have a need for it. You might be able to order it online from that type of a source too.
It wasn't super cheap to buy here either, but you can reuse it once if you had big pieces to start with. After that the plastic side that you place next to the fabric kind of looses it. I don't do much applique so my roll has lasted quite a while.

You should be able to find it in the paper products aisle in the grocery store. It is used normally to wrap meat before putting it in the freezer for protection. You may want to ask the butcher in the meat dept., as they use freezer paper all the time. Good luck!

I called my local hardware store and they are going to order some for me. It is reynolds freezer paper 18x50' at a price of $5.49.

Woohoo! (Okay I am not crazy happy because I found freezer paper. Really I am not!!!!)

Try the bulk barns near you,I found freezer paper there one day.

In Ontario..I've bought it at the grocery store in where the aluminum foil and wax paper is...at Loblaws Superstore and also at Metro. The box has the name Freezer Paper in large letters so it's hard to miss.
