Suggestions for how to quilt my Independence Day quilt

I’m at a loss for ideas for how to quilt my Independence Day quilt. I don’t think I want to try echoing each block. And I wasn’t too happy with my wavy lines on my Sunset Sailing quilt.

I’m thinking of straight diagonal lines about 1-1/2” apart, but am open to other straight line machine quilting ideas….

I like doing diagonal lines (straight and wavy) but I don't like it as densely quilted as you suggested at 1.5 inches. Just my personal preference. I think if you want that, then go for it.

Yes, for this quilt, I agree that 1.5” apart would be too close.

It's a great quilt. I would be tempted to try new designs to suit the blocks, but I think the sashings could be about 1/2" along the lines. Your quilt, your choice.

I agree that stitching 1.5" lines apart would make it very dense and stiff.
Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

I know you don't feel comfortable with FMQ yet, so straight diagonal lines would work. But try 2-3" apart. the 1.5" is very narrow & close quilting. That top turned out great.

since this quilt is almost a sampler this is a great opportunity to do different patterns in each block. Just a suggestion. You might be able to see some of the fmq on the hanging quilt I did. buildingblock2.jpg

Wow, Brian, just what I needed to see. Your second one will be perfect solution for the grandmothers flower garden quilts I need to quilt. I've been trying to find the perfect pattern, but I now see you have found it. Thanks!!!

If I can figure out the angles and the spacing. My rhombus template should come in handy. And a lot of painter’s tape.

I use Crayolas washable pens instead of tape, but that still would be lots of ink.

Anytime, Granny Fran. I have the heat sensitive pens. I’m just afraid to use them on a completed top.

I've used the heat sensitive pens, but find them rather unreliable to keep removed. I use them when hand quilting when I know the thread will be darker than the pen ink and will cover it up.
