    Slave Route Quilts

I saw this mentioned at a quilt show I was at a while back and was wondering if anyone had any information about the quilts they used along the trail slaves used to escape to the north? Anyone ever made one? Are they hard? I thought it would be a fun project if I can figure it out.

Thanks Natalie. That was very interesting. I did not know anything about the use of quilts to warn and protect the slaves.

                Re: Slave Route Quilts

Not meaning to be a downer, but I have done some follow up also on the Underground Railroad Quilts,,, and there is some controversy as to the accuracy of those stories.
If you can't see it riding by on a fast horse - it ain't there.

There's always controversy and because it had to be such a secret, who knows if we'll ever really know It's still a fun idea! I'd love to hear what you have heard though qv
I still struggle to understand how these quilts really gave instructions but they are pretty.
I really like the wagon wheel block! I'd love to make a whole quilt of that... I think :? I have such a hard time deciding on anything!
To stitch or not to stitch... There is no question.
