    Help choosing quilting thread

I'm getting ready to do some echo quilting inside each shark, and then probably a long serpentine every three or four inches in the background areas to resemble water movement around the sharks. The back is a fairly dark mottled blue. I'm stumped as far as what color(s) if thread to use. I'd love suggestions about the colors and if those quilting plans sound OK. (I'm a relatively new quilter, and I don't have much color confidence.) Thank you!

a Something watery would be a good Quilting pattern! A lot of people like light grey for a neutral that goes well with a lot of colors!

I think the light grey would be perfect for the fish, possibly even for the full quilt. Take some of the thread and pool it on the top, and see if you like it. If not, you may one to go to a darker color for the background. Something that blends.

I think light to medium gray would be perfect.

Love the sharks! I have that patten and plan to make a pillow for my Ohio sister's birthday. I'm going to use one of Mom's old (plaid) shirts for the shark.

I think grey is your best bet for the quilting. It is a good blender.

If you choose an embroidery thread (Floriani, for instance), what do you use in your bobbin? I have pre-wound white and black thread bobbins that I use in my embroidery machine, but I wouldn't want those.on the back of my quilt. Thanks!

(I brought your question to your post so it wouldn't get lost.)

You can use Floriani and other brand EMB thread in the bobbin for quilting. Match the thread to the backing if you like or use a contrasting color. I have also used Glide thread in the bobbin.

I agree with everyone's advice, but just wanted to say that those sharks are adorable and don't look scary at all. Cute quilt!
